MY IKV EXPERIENCE IN BOHOL, PHILIPPINES

By Paolo Novicio

My visit to Bohol, Philippines was a splendid trip. As a member of Kids For Christ, I joined the International Kids Village which was held in Holy Name University in Bohol. Our theme was “Kids Power”. We learned to pray, to share and to build. I visited many places in Bohol. I visited the Chocolate Hills. The Chocolate Hills are extraordinary and it was a long way to the top of the observatory. We walked 214 steps to get to the top and it was a thrill.  I learned that on dry seasons, the hills turn chocolate brown. There were 1268 original chocolate hills and with the new ones there are now a total of 1776 hills. I had a close encounter with the tarsier. It is an endangered specie. It is the smallest primate in the world. Our tour guide said that if a person holds a tarsier, it would die in a matter of days. The tarsier is a nocturnal animal and can turn its head 180 degrees to the left and 180 degrees to the right. People should take care of the tarsier so that it will not go extinct. We had lunch while taking a cruise along Loboc River. We stopped at the place where talented children played the ukulele and sang joyful Filipino songs. Yes, the Loboc cruise was a new experience for me because it was fun and thrilling.

During the IKV I made new friends, learned to pray, share and build and never to give up. We sang praise songs  and watched other children perform and share their talent. My favourite song is I’ve Got The Power especially these lines: “I PRAY THAT ONE DAY, WE’D FOLLOW JESUS’ NAME, NO MORE WAR, A WORLD AT PEACE, A PLACE WHERE LOVE IS”. Our Chinese friends Niu Niu and Fei Fei who joined our trip were nice and friendly to us. And my Filipino friends were humble and good. During the talent night we performed the Fuwa song. It was fun but I still had a little bit of stage fright. During the mass on the last day, the Most Reverent Leonardo Y. Medroso, Bishop of Tagbilaran City, Bohol celebrated the mass with Fr. Justin and Fr. Paul of China and Fr. Harold. I did a prayer of the faithful. I prayed that people who don’t know God will soon know to love and fear him. I was really happy on the last day because Tito Harold brought me to Panglao Beach. I am looking forward to next year’s IKV because I’m sure it will be better and more exciting and I will surely learn more.
