Boy Scout of the Philippines, Jamboree, In Los Banos Laguna is really a perfect place for this sort of camp. I’ve been in this place on two previous weekends, first in the Family Ties last June 7-8 and again last July 12-13 when we accompanied our KFC and Sagip in the Heroes camp. And now, here comes another great weekend, the father and son bond camp.

For me this camp is a blessing from God because I know it is another opportunity for us to be able to see and feel God’s love for me and my son. Compared to the family TIES, it was a different kind of experience that God allowed us to have. Our son Eavan has a little bit of “attitude”, He is what you would call naughty and is quite hyperactive compared to his siblings. However, he is the most loving and thoughtful of all our three children and that more than makes up for the ‘headaches” he often causes. In one activity during the camp, the night trail, where father and son, blindfolded, are asked to trek from the camp to the grotto, my son started complaining and refused to join the rest. He had so many alibis and even started crying but I knew he was just afraid. The thing is, this is one part of the program that I really wanted him to experience. However, I cannot control his emotions and I didn’t want to force him into it and so we initially decided to back out of the night trail. While the other participants were preparing for the trek, I had a rare opportunity to have a one to one talk with my son. It was one of the few occasions that I feel I made a connection with him. After I explained to him the importance of the activity and why we were attending the camp, I was surprised that he had a sudden change of heart. We were able to join the activity and at the end of the trail, I was so happy to see his amazement, as we sat together, father and son, in the midst of the forest savoring the beauty of nature and the cacophony of sounds it offered. There were a lot more things the camp allowed me to discover not only about my son but also about me, being a father to him.  We both learned about each other as we enjoyed the camp. Now I’m eagerly waiting for the next bond camp, so that our younger son, Kyle, will also experience the wonderful time Eavan and I had.

God Bless Us All !!!
